I have no quarrel with the basic philosophy the Boston Celtics use. It’s been proved that, on average, the team that not only makes the most three-point field goals β€” but the ones who even attempt the most β€” usually win the game.

But not always.

There is a whole lot of variance there. It’s why underdogs can always beat more talented teams β€” some nights the three-pointer just isn’t going down. Heck, some fourth quarters it isn’t going down β€” as the Celtics have shown in their last two playoff games.

And it has caused Boston to trail 0-2 at home in a second-round playoff series it should win over the New York Knicks.
