Are sports leagues really able to fully monitor players' ability to manipulate bets?

My worries about legalized gambling are increasing — because in spite of all the puffing by pro sports leagues about being able to monitor their athletes’ ventures into gaming.
From what I have seen, there are quite possibly a lot of players aiding and abetting outcomes of certain bets, whether they are actually putting their own money on the line or allowing a friend or relative to make monthly rent.
Here’s why:
The latest pro under investigation for gambling is Cleveland Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz. He is suspended with pay while Major League Baseball completes an investigation into TWO PITCHES he threw during two games in June.
